A Unicorn
unbeatable.
Chilean writer (and world) Roberto Bolaño said that "writing is a craft village of rogues and fools, who do not realize how fleeting it is." And with that, the author (who goes fashion beyond life) stripped the prejudices that tarnish the international literary world.
Several writers have discussed cannibalism prevailing in literary circles. These days, when he received the Critics Award for his novel "Learn to lose," English writer-director David Trueba said he "hopes the prize will serve to dispel the prejudices of the world of literature about someone who has always had one foot in the cinema. The writers look over their shoulder to the movie people. " A new stone (the Trueba) against the glass of the ancient tower where some would stay celestial back to the world.
The literary environment operates under the format of the clan. Each time a writer like Rushdie or Saviano, receives death threats, we speak of the dangers to freedom of expression. What is not said is that there are mechanisms silent conditions and exclusions. Not all criminals use bullets to kill the ideas.
The literary world works according to the (totalitarian) of panels of writers eager for recognition and power. And from the top of the tower designs the list of those elected: "The greatest writers are my friend and cousin. After us the abyss. "I am not referring to lists of influences (a logical development if reviews creative and aesthetic issue is involved), but the hotshot fancy structured (with hand is sedated) to pretend to direct the reader's taste. In this clan belongs much of the criticism that has little public space. And is ordered closed literary Olympus.
is an ancient practice. The writer (not to generalize, because there are those who reject this carnival autogenialidades) cited publicly only your friends (and cousins) is difficult for a writer to get up from the couch to find the book by an unknown author. It is true that the virus is a widespread custom cronyism in all areas of human, however, the acquired characteristics of cult literature. I dare say that some literary circles (in the XXI century) act with fanaticism (and closed-mindedness) of more orthodox religions. In other artistic activities such as movies or music, there are more direct communication channels between creators and the public.
lists are always exclusive, but more so when repeated by agreement between factors involved. And with the list in hand, coordinate events, lectures, awards and other components of consecration. And, as if the work is not the engine of the matter, crushed proposals (in public) of hundreds of artists.
I recently became the first book of Uruguayan writer Rachel Leon, the title "Glass Unicorns" invited me to conclude (from the sidewalk vindictive bastards) the long list of established creators of the world. I think of powerful novels Pedro Antonio Curto (Asturias), the news stories of Chara Lattuf (Caracas), the political stories of Marcelo Colussi (Buenos Aires), the meticulous records of the pair of Andrea Alvarez (Venezuela) and Ricardo Benitez ( Argentina), the rebels always views José Saramago (consistent passer of the street) and the best stories that I had an anonymous individual, who once found walking along the wall of the beach of San Lorenzo (Gijón), another days at the hot corner (Caracas), and many others in a market in La Paz and Bogota.
This list is universal and diverse. Its members (as unbeatable Unicorns) walk plowing classifications and glass towers. With their work in hand, just think to bring their writing to that reader irreverent, out of conviction, has renounced the laws of the clans. Both the street and on the Internet: we have to revolutionize the means of communication between artists and people.
I like to imagine that, at the edges of the hotshot of some clan, Roberto Bolaño writes a decalogue burlesque on the false seriousness of an office of rogue.

From the shelves of bookstores, the books seem to say "read me" and you wink at the reader. Clara Rojas compete in the new table with the three Americans who, judging by the traffic lights, you are ahead in the hit parade. "Buy, sell! "shouted the newsboys, as if they were harvesting mangoes, and arm pirated titles just another dubious list of Most Popular. "Tell me if you hack and tell you if you sell" seems to be the top editorial this week, when we remember Shakespeare and Cervantes and celebrate the Day of copyright.
Between the hubbub of vintage books, I wonder where are the authors and publishers and what we understood to be written. "Often, writing is like driving a truck at night without lights, lost in the middle of the road and spending a decade in a ditch," says Gay Talese, the famous reporter for The New York Times and The New Yorker, from the back cover of the Life of a writer, which shares a very personal biography table Wow, Clara Rojas. Volume two books and look at the two pictures: Gay and Clara. The two smile at me in black and white. One is heavy and the other light. As the books also catch the eye, I can not help but be seduced by the look of Talese and his kindly smile of an old fox, compared to the expression of Clara, who does not communicate anything. What to take, not the proverbial desert island, but my bedside table? Although my choice is already made, I decided to take a chance on Wow. Not Clara, it is clear. I'm not talking about people, lives and how much has been someone. I'm talking about books.
Maybe that's being lost on the road and spending a decade in a ditch, but not real but symbolic struggle with the words, which I missed in captivity. While reading the book with the background of the newscast, and so can be read without the need for silence, "was jumping lines, also without remorse. Just as I touched the real life of Clara Rojas, her writing life left me flat. I found nothing to mourn and nothing to laugh, or anything that did not already know the news, and I do not mean serial gossip, but these "news self fund" to be looking in books. If it's so hard to live, is much more difficult to have life and not enough to say, for example, "the forest has a color that is a thousand shades of green, and also a specific odor, vegetation and moisture." (That says either.) The problem is to make the reader will fit those boots smelly and fall and hurt your eyes with those green ants and feel itchy and painful gut. And feel the hatred and uncertainty of life and death, all mixed together.
Transpose anecdotes, like a dear diary, or reinvent the experience and make the reader live? That work, which is also the editor, especially when the perpetrators are inexperienced, lacked the editors of Wow, who seem to have been limited to splash the book with footnotes page, type export "typical Colombian corn cake (arepa). "Actress and model very popular Colombian born in 1956 with a successful career" (Amparo Grisales). "Defence Minister launched the Operation Jaque, the ingenious operation ...." Instead of writing this controversial and nothing naive glossary equals masato FARC, a good editor could have helped Clara to cross out phrases like "to me friendship is a core value. That instilled in me as a child "and transform their spontaneous impulse of self-praise and self-censorship in an exploration their own forest and your own voice. Of course for that, as Talese says, it takes a decade and maybe it's an unthinkable time to sell the books produced by our drama, such as mango harvest. "I have invested much money in lost time ... I have traveled thousands of miles with clues that, in the end, I do not lead anywhere, "Talese I read and agree with their statistics: roughly 80 percent of the work ends in the trash. Perhaps that is what we are doing is most needed: a trash can to dump all that excess and wait for the screen from time runs out just how little filtering
