Although there is no category of writer named Spook, Edgard Collazos is the ancestry. Was thickly covered far from major centers in San Andres and Providencia, and there he wrote for several journals his beautiful novel The Devil in the bow.
beautiful and evocative book its title, it unfolds Edgar Collazos double their marine knowledge and historical knowledge to deliver an original and unsettling saga.
weaves so tight at the epicenter and large waves of a special language that makes a world team between piracy and American independence, which often bartered roles. Agustin Codazzi, the great geographer who learned to make maps with a blind man named Zappi, sometimes a hero, sometimes seems to wear masks for a dinner with the trappings of a privateer.
The story loses its leaves in other stories as a Russian doll, is staged in the Caribbean almost constant as a kind of living space ship of fools (stultifera navis), older than the crew but so new at the same time as the American continent awakening.
is one of those ships, a sort of boat with the name superb falconry and falcon hawk Old seas. One of those hulking naval sixteenth century were indeed floating slums, so sordid and mephitic seemed not to anchor in the docks only to be regurgitated by the sea. Edgar
effectively calls "small floating Babylonian."
In their travels around a palimpsest woods of oblivion: Traces of old sailors without a country, tarascazos typhoon impressions of Florentine carvers anchored in Quito, the carved figure of a satyr that "naked villainy pressed by a nubile buttocks mulatto, an amazonite with a face of pain, holding in his right hand gestures a mask with laughter. " This seems to be a metaphor for paganism surviving the conquest of America: grimaces of pain but the ability to call release on the ways of joy and laughter.
these beings are moved often vivid created or recreated by the virtuoso writing and observation of Edgar Collazos. Heroes and villains
dancing a pavan endless. There is a man who reads verses inspired by the French revolution each time he crosses a danger. Another swears that Don Quixote became a pirate Channel and anyone else who insists on making fun of Fernando VII.
The novel grabs you by lapel and forces you to go from bow to stern with great skill. After closing still flapping in the memory.
This is a great human hive, very human, in the midst of the awakening of our young republics and their evil doings. So the figure of Aury, the French pirate, half hero, half liar but that was by turning loyal to Bolivar.
tells in great detail the arrival of pirate Broken Ears to Cali in 1860, who had arrived by that wide sea Pacific slandered and there never displayed deep knowledge hinder the literary narrative.
"Cali was just a small town, where for many years a cardboard local aristocracy lived in conflict with the culture of their slaves, "says Collinson and as if there had been recorded a steadfast social currency. Today the sugar cane cutters are still black, they are still slaves. Arguably, the devil in the bow is also a story of our mestizaje, an intersection often made racial rape. It lists the priests
launching anathemas in the town of Cali under the salacious sex between whites and blacks, with a binding exercised inquisitorial discourse from the pulpit of the devil.
navigation routes, a log written by Buck Dampier, an extraordinary character fierce descendant of William Dampier, the thesis that in American independence piracy sinks, voices and whispers of the dead, the story of a pirate's lost father, who as Aeneas carrying his father at the expense of memory, all this comes to writing Collazos, like the owner of a Ouija board, the medium of many sailors who sail the seas of forgetfulness.
are many and varied and resonant avatars that leads to sharp prose, nervous, and quietly lyrical The devil in the bow.
novel is a foundation in a country that has two very small seas and marine literature and poetry. As if we had only a continental tradition claustrofílica Mediterranean.
no hesitation in enthusiastically recommending immersion in these 304 pages of the Sea.

pirate novels I had come to inhabit the museum useless. But with the projection of the two versions of Pirates of the Caribbean of Verbinski, was no longer my hero James Dean, of East of Eden to become Johnny Depp, Pirate of the Caribbean card stock where Columbus landed to sense and to testify that he had come to the edge of paradise.
also with the appearance of Ursúa -the fantasy of cyclopean William Ospina, going for long, "returns to the fore the historical novels of our deeds, with a stylistic rigor and a large dose not to mention a rigorous lyrical documentary basement space does not detract from the creative input of the newest columnist. It is known that such conquerors passed between such and such date of such and such a place, but it is not known which or how many holes left horses were eating. William pushes her warriors among the salt of his uneasiness, camera in hand so as not to miss the fertile landscape of such beauty that makes one of my friends stinging butterfly is very little chigger, which was the most bitter enemy of English.
Edgar Collazos, a classmate of William at the Fray Damian Gonzalez de Cali, give the pot of conquest to the time of independence, and there are places with pirates: Aristides (the pilot), Boom, Dark, Buck, Edmund, who, after ending their sea adventures as pirates on the street, and participate in all the scramble were the acts of independence, from the Observatoire de Cali, Valle and the Pacific.
Ospina has reopened a historic lock with its fierce conquerors and Edgar's assumed his classmate with his band of ferocious pirates, for these wonders of literature in the land of infidels, they end up being interpreted by a reader as me, as curing of ghosts and horror of priests, as a sea of tender little guy, despite his bravado and bitterness romantic swashbuckler. No wonder the author buried 30 years in the sunny island of Morgan, the mayor was that up. Unlike William, Collazos appeals to the grotesque carnival, the masquerade epic, the ritual dance the mud with his heel. In this turmoil, where the devil breaking waves as the figurehead, it is logical that brew in prose, to defile the whiff of ribald irreverence, vent to the bright red flesh and extravagance to afford one or two lashes of speech for the greater eccentricity of the story.
The novel is excessive. Looks like a trip Yage, where the traveler is stripped through saving diarrhea, all their toxins to enter the realm of the ineffable. Edward was wrapped in her childhood memories, as the phrase of the blacks to his father: "If I tell the truth, I lie." It is a novel in which everything fits, as in the buttocks delighted many females without a name; which is told from the start of the foot lay in the mud of a continent that sacred fire and blood had to submit, until that moment prophesied by a circus fortune teller that, unless the bottom fell out the sky and the stars fell, never come to pass the American release. The novel ends at precisely the moment when the Patriots beat the Pantano de Vargas and Boyacá. As the band of pirates, satiated with adventures, in Cartagena, begins to notice some ominous signs in the sky. It is possible that Colombia and Latin America have not survived to independence. ---

needed a book that wrap in excess of its origin dating back to the reporter who quoted García Márquez in his Nobel acceptance speech, The Solitude of Latin America, "where germs are looming Today's novel, which have gradually been moving away novelists, more likely to traqueto adventure that rattle of words in the process of innovation.
Gabo said: "Antonio Pigafetta, a Florentine navigator who accompanied Magellan on his first voyage around the world, wrote his way through our wonderful chronicle South America that nevertheless seems an adventure of the imagination. He said he had seen hogs with navels on their backs, a legless birds whose hens laid eggs on the backs of male and others as gannets without language whose peaks seemed a spoon. He said he had seen a misbegotten creature with the head and ears of a mule, a camel's body, legs of venison and horse whinny. He said that the first native encountered in Patagonia was facing a mirror, and whereupon that impassioned giant lost the use of reason by the terror of his own image. "
Pigafetta, who would not be fabrications or hallucinations with opium, but arising from what he saw with his eyes blinded by the fantasy of discovery, reverberate in the avalanche happen Demon in the bow, providential witness " The Outcast of the Islands ", as he called Edgar Collazos that other wizard who was Simon Gonzalez, governor of the islands, and the son of Fernando González, the grandfather of nothingness.
all know that there is a place so idyllic that not even the world -Although it belongs to Colombia, and even though their territory is far more sacred, "and is the island of Providencia. In this place my prophet Gonzalo Arango found God and found love and therefore left to their own nothingness, so that was lucky enough to merit ", and wrote a book with that name, with the sincere intention to save the world. But the world does not let anyone save much less of the rescuers, so are atheists or believers.
I traveled there on a rock island where the sea wind sculpted head of Morgan, while the invaders and their protector, not in search of divinity or of amorous passion, who have walked with me always, but say hello to my friend René Rebetez, in advance of the sea of tranquility in the land, who had just rolling their bags into the marine cemetery. He had news that a hotel had "initiated" in esoteric disciplines-or-mandrake liquor, called Deep Bleu, which from the sea was a kind of giant ship anchored in the cliffs. In their huts felt the breath of the pirates who ravaged the Caribbean. The ruler of the place itself seemed not a pirate, or held as eye patch, peg leg or parrot on his shoulder, but gave the impression that was full of them, they did not leave his hut nor my gold tips. And not only that but not charge me, because it really has no price paradise for the blessed. Edgar Collazos, Cali in exile for 30 years had assumed the sky jail. I looked out the window, going down looking for my share of ostrones, scanning maps, astrolabes consulting and old manuscripts, and writing who knows what. Many years later I would realize it was the pirate novel I am presenting today.

In my childhood, that the said well I have not left but to take some air, I started to read seas adventures, rather, to read them to my grandmother, who could neither read nor write, but they add and subtract and multiply, and paid me a penny per page. The first of the series was Treasure Island, Stevenson, in the penultimate Hay Festival in Cartagena de Indias, was listed by most writers the world as the most beautiful book of literature, with perhaps an echo of Borges . I should read
20,000 Leagues Under the chatter also spear-because he believed even five Verne their predictions for the future from the Nautilus, starting with the sub-uncertain, which I left the bag full. We were unable to Los Lusiadas, de Camoes, perhaps because the editing was so smooth lines that made me wet the bed. Once sheared the old, I devoured The Odyssey, by Homer, and then from Kazantzakis, and Moby Dick, Melville, wonder trio for a while I got blue eyes. I make this account of my reading, not Chicano as a cult, but that did not think I am a layman in the field. To which I add all the Gaviero Maqroll saga and I take to realize that I have saved for the season winter the whole of his teacher, Joseph Conrad.
The devil in the bow , piratical novel of Edgar Collazos (A), is a tsunami, trembles from morning until the light is fired, because of the debt of souls characters in penalty sought by the deities of the sites or their heinous guilt. I finish and I must say that for a long field had not in my mind to create so huge. I think that with this novel, recently Rodrigo Parra Sandoval, The museum of useless (B), and Chicago Wheel (B), Armando Romero , Valley deferred pay the debt to the great national literature with global pretensions. I enjoyed the privilege of commenting on the three with similar enthusiasm.
This is a great American historical novel, overflowing with myths and mythomania novelist, for something fabular license. Except that, over time, it had gradually becomes incredible, without necessarily a liar, as eaters chancarina molasses and they are becoming more rational and more incredulous.
A novel
black white, Indian, mulatto, sambo and mixed, priests and healers, as realists and patriots rowdy, ladies and prostitutes. And the piratical horde, whose mission was only to steal a boat and got caught in the war for independence. Bulk jump anecdotes, like the account of the origin of paging. "It must be because years ago, when a person referred to one of the highest rank, he told you," replied the hero Cabal and followed him, the king, referring to God saying: "To you, Lord" and the God the King and Queen: "To you, Lord" and blacks, as we had all above, we provided that you use. "
Cali, then the claim (B) because of something as Julio César Londoño (B) that the current literature in the territory was irrelevant, he needed a work that wrap in excess of origin.
